How to Clean Up Coolant Spills in the Metalshop

If you happen to spill coolant in the metalshop, don't worry! It's important to clean it up as soon as possible to avoid any accidents.

For small spills, simply grab a rag and wipe it up.

But for larger spills, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Mop up the worst of the spill with an absorbent pad from the spill kit.
  2. Locate the square bucket in the chemical locker near the horizontal bandsaw.
  3. Fill it with hot water and a little dish soap from the kitchen.
  4. You'll also need a broom and the shop vacuum.
  5. Make sure to remove the internal filter from the vacuum as we'll be using it to suck up water.
  6. Next, wet the broom with the soapy water and scrub the spill in small sections. Vacuum up the wastewater as you go along.

Hope that helps! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
